From June 1 through July 31, 2026, the 2026 Summer Research Camp welcomed 14 undergraduate students, two graduate students, and one high school student to Washington Square Hall at San José State University as part of NSF-funded projects. In addition, eight high school students conducted summer research at SVCSI over a five-week period.

On July 31, 2026, we hosted an in-person research poster showcase at San José State University, where students presented their research projects to family members and friends. Throughout the summer, students demonstrated curiosity, creativity, and determination as they explored an exciting range of research topics.

Working both independently and in teams, participants explored cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, digital forensics, privacy, fraud, and autonomous systems. They asked challenging questions, built and tested new ideas, worked through unexpected results, and learned what research looks like beyond the classroom. Just as importantly, they supported one another, shared their growing expertise, and built connections across schools, majors, and experience levels.

The summer came to a joyful close with Poster Day on July 31. Surrounded by faculty, peers, family, and friends, students proudly presented the projects they had worked so hard to complete. The event was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their achievements and see how much their confidence, technical ability, and passion for research had grown in just two months.

The camp was led by Principal Investigator Dr. Younghee Park (SJSU, with faculty support from Dr. Nurettin Senol (SJSU), Dr. Nima Karimina (USF), Dr. Xiaoyan Sun (WPI), and Vikrant Grande (Northeastern University). In addition, two graduate research assistants helped manage this program and mentor some of the groups: Ashutosh Mane, a graduate research assistant in the MS AI program at SJSU, and Zayd Mohammed, a graduate student in computer science at UC Davis. A heartfelt thank-you goes to every student, mentor, family member, and supporter who made this summer such a rewarding experience. We cannot wait to see where these talented students go next!
